The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle
Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous story The Hound of the Baskervilles (1902), is based on an old Devonshire legend and English “gothic” novels. Investigation of the strange death of the last representative of an ancient aristocratic family leads Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to a cold-blooded and cunning killer, disguising his crimes under the attacks of a monstrous dog, which, according to legend, has long haunted the Baskerville family. The mystery of the family portrait, jealousy, the struggle for inheritance and the appearance of the ghost dog in the final story create a unique flavor of one of the best works of the detective genre.
