What is NLP?
NLP is a core concept of psychology. It stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. NLP was first introduced in 1970 by Richard Brandler and John Grinder. Grinder, a linguistics expert and Brandler an author, explored the dimensions of human psychology in terms of mind and behavior control.
They were some of the first ones to tell humans that it is possible to attain more from life by making use of both sides of the brain. They are said to have been heavily influenced by the work of psychologists Virginia Satir, Milton Erickson and Fritz Peris. In fact, Brandler closely worked with Peris and Satir to come up with the different ideologies of NLP.
NLP mainly deals with people capitalizing on their brainpower and doing more by tapping into their complete mental capacity. I know it sounds a bit complex but it is actually quite easy. You have to first understand the basic concept and then go about exploiting it. Through the course of this book, we will look at how you can do so with ease.
Through extensive study or educated people, Brandler and Grinder found that despite having similar educational backgrounds, some people were able to exploit their education and do more in their life whereas some were unable to put it to good use and would end up failing at finishing the task at hand.
This made them realize that having good education alone was not helping these people succeed and there was something more that was allowing them to forge ahead. They decided to investigate and find out what really set these successful people apart and what extra they possessed that helped them get to where they were.
Once they were done with their research, they were surprised to know that the successful people had a different way of communicating with others, which helped them succeed better. The ones that were not succeeding as much were not able to communicate with others well enough. So, they decided to compile a set of rules that would allow people to communicate better and thus the concepts of NLP were formed.
What sets NLP apart from the rest of the concepts that are out there is the fact that it mainly deals with focusing on the solution as opposed to the problem. Many psychologists spend a lot of time listening to a person’s problems and make a big deal out of trying to analyze and present these problems. However, NLP will focus on the solution and come up with a feasible one that help the person implement it with ease.
NLP is a concept where people make use of the information that they have and try to apply it practically in the different real life situations that they come across on a daily basis. As you know, everybody is required to take full advantage of their education and that can be done through the implementation of NLP. Communication is a key aspect and NLP teaches people to both communicate internally with themselves and also externally with the outside world.
The concept is generally taught by experts who have extensive knowledge on the subject. Many schools and colleges now make use of NLP to teach students and help them understand how they can use their existing knowledge and put it to good use.
Problem solving is one of the main implementations of NLP. It is not limited to looking at the issue through a single viewpoint and deals with analyzing it through several different viewpoints before arriving at a feasible solution. It is about expanding the horizons of thought and looking at the bigger picture. Now you might be wondering as to who is NLP for? And whether you will be able to take it up and implement it in your life.
NLP will be beneficial for a whole host of people and there is no hard and fast rule that says only certain types of people can take it up. Let us look at who can truly benefit by employing the theories of NLP in their life.
Working professionals will have the chance to maximize their career opportunities by making use of NLP. As you know, everybody in the rat race wishes to outdo the other in order to be a leader. With the help of NLP, the person will know to make a quick decision and find a solution that will help solve a problem. He or she will also be able to deal with everyday issues with ease thereby increasing their level of productivity.
Students can make use of NLP to excel in their studies. NLP mainly deals with enhancing internal communication and the child will be able to remember the concepts better, and for a longer period of time. NLP is a simple concept and children will not have to take up rigorous mental tasks to understand and implement it. Parents can start introducing the concept to them and they will successfully get their child started on it.
NLP is also for elders. It will help in making their everyday life easy. They will not have to put in too much effort to find solutions to their problems and they can extrapolate and arrive at quick and feasible solutions to their issues. NLP is a technique that many elders employ in their day-to-day life, as it is quite simple to understand as well…..
